Lotto Syndicates

How does the lottery bring people together?

Spanish sociologist Roberto Garvia has been researching the lottery market across Europe since the early 17th century. And in the process he saw one interesting pattern, the higher the profits, the lower the sales. This was observed in Austria and Germany, and the exception were places where syndicate play was popular. These were primarily Spain, but also Portugal.

Syndicates were predominantly a game among the poorer strata of society, which arose because of the constant simple prices, but also continued even then, which the game became much more affordable. The specialist says that this is due to social interaction. Group play among people who trust each other strengthens social ties and expands them.

And in fact, there are many examples to prove it. For example, the Christmas lottery is a real national tradition, and in many countries people get together and play together.

And today there are some rather interesting stories where a syndicate consisted of different people, but in a group game they succeeded.

Nursing syndicate

  1. The amount of money won is £1.3 million.
  2. There were 30 people in the syndicate.
  3. Gambling experience reached 17 years.

Nurses have participated in the National Lottery since its inception, i.e. since 1994.

Lotto Syndicates

Marathoners

  1. Winnings of £1 million.
  2. A group of six people.
  3. There was no permanent cooperation.

The 6 friends decided to buy Euromillons lottery tickets before flying to Holland. The leader of this syndicate was famous for his luck, which is why the friends supported him.

When they returned home, the tickets were checked, but no one saw the winning combination. Of course, there were jokes about the head. But the latter turned out to be persistent and decided to double-check everything. And indeed it made sense, as one of the tickets yielded a big win.

Primary schools teachers

  1. The amount won was £1 million.
  2. A group of 30 people.
  3. Gambling experience of 17 years.

It all happened on April 1, when the head of the syndicate gathered a small meeting of the participants. There she announced the good news, but initially no one believed her, as they thought it was a joke in honor of the holiday.

But in fact the winnings were quite big and after work the teachers went to a local pub to celebrate the victory.

Supermarket workers

  1. The amount they won was £6.8 million.
  2. There are 16 people in the syndicate.
  3. Gaming experience of 2 years.

The syndicate started back in 2010. The group participated in every draw of the lottery which was held 2 times a week. And in the first draw, they determined a combination that didn’t change on a regular basis.

Each of the entrants ended up with almost £430,000 each. But almost no one had any plans to quit. The place to work is pretty good, so why not keep going?
